Rainbow Barf Scarf

Crochet yourself a SICK Rainbow Scarf!

You Will Need:

  • Crochet Hooks (I used 3mm for the clouds and 5.5mm for the scarf)

  • Double Knit/Light (3) Weight Yarn in Main Colour. I used approx. 16g of each colour for this scarf, both for the clouds and the rainbow part

  • Safety Eyes or Button Eyes (Sizing Guide Below)

  • Stitch Markers Or Piece Of Scrap Yarn

  • Yarn/Embroidery Needle

  • If using Button Eyes - Black sewing thread/cotton and sewing needle

Abbreviations

  • Ch - Chain Stitch

  • Sc - Single Crochet

  • Inc (Sc Increase) - 2 Sc into 1 St

  • HDC - Half Double Crochet

  • HDC 3rd Loop - HDC in the 3rd loop only - A good video tutorial can be found on YouTube, here

  • Slst - Slip Stitch

  • St/Sts - Stitch/Stitches

  • ** - Marks a group of stitches to be repeated

Button Size Guide

I used button eyes for my scarf- as a rough size guide you will need a main, outer black Clown/Coat button; a flat white button a few mm smaller than the black Clown/Coat button; and a flat black “pupil” button a few mm smaller than that. For this project, I use:

  • 25mm Black Clown/Coat Button

  • 18mm White Flat Button

  • 11mm Black Flat“Pupil” Button

** I sell these button eye packs in my Etsy Pattern Shop! I use size Large for this particular project

Alternatively you can use any notion you like for the eyes - safety eyes, other buttons, embroidery, felt - anything you wish :)

Gauge

No gauge, just keep your stitches nice and tight to avoid gaps in your work. Your end scarf will be bigger/smaller depending on yarn weight - the example scarf is made using DK/Light (3) weight yarn

Finished Size

Scarf measures approx. 180cm/70 inches long when using the stated pattern length and DK weight yarn

Other Info

  • The cloud part of this pattern is crocheted in the Round. The scarf part is crocheted in Rows

  • Use stitch markers or a piece of scrap yarn to mark the start of every round of the cloud. Replace at the start of the next round as you go along. This will help you keep track of where you started, and saves a lot of time if things go wrong!

  • I write my patterns in American terms, so Sc means US Single Crochet; Dc means US Double Crochet etc. For a conversion table to UK terms, please see this chart

  • The number at the end of each round/row is the number of stitches you should now have

Note On Yarn Weight…

I used DK weight yarn for this project. You can however use any weight you wish - it won’t affect the end result too much. Just remember to use the appropriate size hooks with your selected yarn weight, as well as using the same weight across both the clouds and the scarf pieces
