Hello, World!

Hey there! I’m Sarah - welcome to my wonky blog!

It’s always so awkward starting a new blog - I never really know where to start. But I guess I should tell you a bit about me!

I’m 37 years old - born in 1984 in Basildon, Essex, England - where I still live. I’ve been into crafting since I was a toddler - I used to love making things from cardboard boxes and yoghurt pots, a-la Art Attack, one of my fave programmes growing up!

I started to learn to crochet back in 2008, when I was 23. I was a full time lurker on the forum Craftster.org, and loved these new things people were making, called Amigurumi. I’d never heard of it before and was desperate to try it, so I took to YouTube and got to learning!

I opened a pattern shop on Etsy a few years later, and started a crochet blog called EssHaych. I continued to crochet through the 2010’s - always learning new things about crochet and toy making. I got really into Blythe dolls around 2013, and opened a new Etsy where I made and sold hats for them.

I took part in many craft fairs over the years - I did love pattern writing but to actually be there in real life, seeing peoples reactions to my handmade toys was always really special to me.

I lost my Mum in March 2020, at the start of the pandemic. She was always my biggest fan, and her passing hit us all very hard. I wound down my 2 Etsy shops as I didn’t feel any enthusiasm for them anymore. 2020 was a bad year in a lot of ways, for so many people.

But come the end of 2020, my hands were itching to crochet again - so I started making amigurumi once more. I posted a lot of pictures of my toys on Instagram and got a really good reactions from fellow craftsters and artists! So I decided to take the plunge - not writing patterns to sell this time but selling the actual handmade toys themselves.

So Wonky World Creations was born! I started out on Etsy and tried several different platforms as their fees went through the roof. I landed on this site in the end, and I’m happy here so far!

From what I remember about blogging, it’s a place to share things about your life, from work to every day life and anything in-between. Unlike Instagram, where you post to be seen - I feel a blog is more like a place to just write, and it’s not too important if you don’t have a large following. For all I know I’m just talking to myself! But that’s all ok, it’s what a blog is for :)

So if you are coming along for the ride - Thank You! I’m so happy to have you onboard! I’m hoping to blog a couple of times a month, and might even post a few free patterns every now and again. So stay tuned!

Again - thank you for being here for my first blog post! I’m very excited about this new website, and can’t wait to start crocheting!

Take care out there <3

Sarah
